Neil studied music at The University of Manchester, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Northern College of Music, graduating in 2001.
As a freelance saxophone and woodwind player, Neil now works mainly in musical theatre. He is regularly in London’s West End, playing on shows including Rat Pack - Live from Las Vegas, Wicked, Oliver! Billy Elliot, Avenue Q, Grease, Les Miserables, The Producers, Shall We Dance (Sadler’s Wells) and The Wizard of Oz (Royal Festival Hall). Later this year, Neil is performing in Sondheim’s Passion at the Donmar Warehouse.
Freelance engagements include Northern Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Concert Orchestra, Sax Assault, Glen Miller Orchestra and Andy Prior Big Band. As tenor player in the Eclipse Saxophone Quartet for eight years, he performed at festivals and concert halls across Europe and the UK.
Neil teaches saxophone at two independent schools in Hertfordshire. He writes for Music Teacher magazine and is Secretary of the Freelance Woodwind Benefit Society.
